Placenta encapsulation servicing Adelaide and surrounds
Placentophagy is the act of mammals consuming their placenta after childbirth
It is a phenomenon observed in ALL mammals in their natural state (excluding camels and aquatic mammals) and is currently undergoing a revival in Western Culture for very good reason.
Reported benefits of placenta encapsulation include;
Reduced risk of postpartum depression
Increased milk supply
Increased bonding
Increased energy
Balanced hormones
Quicker postpartum recovery (decreased lochia, less pain, nutrients replenished)
Decrease in postpartum infection
The process
Your placenta is either steamed then thinly sliced for the traditional method, or simply thinly sliced for the raw method; then dehydrated, ground into a powder and placed into capsules for consumption. Please read more about the steamed and non-steamed methods of preparation here to decide which is right for you.

Below is a video presentation I created on placentophagy. A brief look at the history surrounding placenta consumption and a more in depth look at the research and literature available.
During this presentation I extrapolate that consuming ones own placenta has the ability to positively impact and aid a Woman’s postpartum period referencing the studies conducted to date.
*DISCLAIMER – IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT PLACENTA CONSUMPTION IS NOT A ‘CURE ALL’. PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION SHOULD BE JUST ONE TOOL IN YOUR POSTPARTUM RECOVERY TOOL KIT. IF YOU FEEL YOUR MOOD DECLINING REACH OUT FOR HELP IMMEDIATELY. Check out my Local Resource Guide for support.
If you’re not quite ready to think about consuming your placenta but would still like to honour this amazing organ, have a read of my blog post on ways to honour your placenta or watch my video presentation below for some inspiration.
“I was absolutely impressed by the amazing service I received from Erin throughout the whole process from first receiving the initial information about what placenta encapsulation involved to receiving my beautiful completed package. As I was pretty much unaware of what it all invovled to start with, I was pleased to have it all explained to me via email and Erin’s website (which is very user friendly with loads of great info) and felt very comfortable about the whole process. The forms I had to fill out were nice and easy to understand and complete and the PDF placenta plan I could print out and take with me to the hospital as a reminder of what I had to do was extremely helpful. After getting out of hospital the day after birth Erin kindly came to my house to pick up my placenta that day and I was absolutely amazed when I received a text the following day to say that my package was ready! Once again, she dropped off the completed package to my house and it was so beautifully presented even including a small frangipani flower! I loved the placenta prints she had done and the cord which was dried in the shape of the word ‘love’ was just stunning! The information and dosage brochure was easy to understand and explained everything I needed to know plus more. Erin was super excited at drop off and took the time to explain to me that my placenta had a yolk sac, a succenturiate lobe and a true knot and what this all meant. She had also printed out information for me about the yolk sac so I could read and learn about it in my own time. What fantastic service and truly going above and beyond what was expected! Erin’s passion and enthusiasm for her work is undeniable and it’s the little things she does which makes the whole process even more special. I can’t thank Erin enough for everything she did for me, for the wonderful package and memories, for the ease of the whole process and most importantly for her passion, creativity, kindess and love of everything birth.”
“I just want to say thankyou so much for preparing my placenta pills and prints. What a beautiful little package you created. I love it all to bits. I love the cord keepsake and the poem that went with it. It actually made me cry! So happy in life and so happy with my new little one. And in love with my new family. If I ever have another child I’ll be doing the same again and come to you to have it done. I love that when my son grows up I will be able to show him his prints and cord. You’ve been wonderful. Thankyou again and take care.”
